Paper Plate Lithography
I used a photo I took on the Mall by the Smithonian and developed myself. To turn it into a lithograph using a 'paper plate' technique, I made a zerox of the photo on card stock and coated the back of it with shellac. Then I applied 4 coats of gum arabic to the front. After drying, the gum arabic is washed from the plate with a sponge and cold water. I mixed Easy Wipe with black Graphic Chemical litho ink and inked the plate, being careful not to overink. The shellac prevents the card from disintegrating in the process. It was hand pulled on Somerset. Somehow I like the graininess using this technique on this paper.
